Our computer and electrical engineering concentrations focus on hardware and software design and prototyping. The concentrations overlap with computer networks, embedded systems, computer graphics, and network security. You'll work on microprocessor/microcontroller systems, computer architecture, and advanced automation.

This type of engineering is for you if you're interested in:

  • Designing software and hardware in a computer system, robot, automobile, and smart device.
  • Making computers more mobile or incorporating computer and automation technology in other areas.
  • Developing and designing memory devices, processors, circuit boards, networks, robots, and biomedical instrumentation.

Our Engineering Technology degree emphasizes the application of engineering in the design and manufacturing of commercial products. You'll work in a leadership role with engineers in product design and development, systems analysis and simulation, project management and quality control.

This type of engineering is for you if you're interested in:

  • Gaining the knowledge and skills you need to design and improve technical products and systems.
  • Flexibility in your career path based on experience gained in technical labs at Stout like Robotics, Machining, Computer-Aided Manufacturing, Welding, Metal Casting, Wood and Plastics.
  • Learning about management and quality control to become an effective leader in your field.

Manufacturing engineers are responsible for the most advanced industrial and commercial equipment in the world. You'll work with a team to design new products manufactured with automated systems. Your engineering expertise will be relevant to large and small manufacturing industries.

This type of engineering is for you if you're interested in:

  • Learning about robotics, automation, control programming, computing, and integrating them into network-based production systems.
  • Applying problem-solving skills throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Studying the processes of transferring materials such as plastic and metal to valuable products that meet customer requirements.

B.S. Mechanical EngineeringPhoto of engineering lab

One of the oldest and broadest types of engineering. Mechanical engineers work on the design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. You’ll study thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, stress analysis, mechanical design, and technical drawing.

This type of engineering is for you if you're interested in:

  • Designing products for the medical, energy, and automated manufacturing sectors.
  • Researching to develop mechanical and thermal devices including the car engines and robots of tomorrow.
  • Working in professional office settings and sometimes visiting worksites to solve problems with existing equipment.

Engineers in the packaging industry tackle different problems than other engineers as this discipline focuses less on developing mechanical systems or products and instead, incorporates mechanics to create products that protect and promote other products. In our rapidly changing society, the packaging industry is at the forefront of interdisciplinary design.

This type of engineering is for you if you're interested in:

  • Pursuing a degree that combines design, science, and creativity.
  • Learning to innovate with a variety of materials and technology and apply conceptual thinking.

Plastics engineering is a fast-moving, high-demand industry that greatly impacts the way we live. You'll learn how to develop sophisticated materials to suit the needs of society. Taught by a team of industry experts, our program covers the latest developments in the field and is supported by a strong network of industry partners.

This type of engineering is for you if you're interested in:

  • Designing and making functional/sustainable/cool plastics products used in medical, automotive, electronics, and consumer markets.
  • Understanding and practicing the principles of chemical structures, properties, and processing of materials.
