When are the Summer and Junior STEAM Experience camps?

The 2024 Summer STEAM Experience Camp for students entering grades 9 to 12 in fall 2024. 

The dates for the Summer STEAM Experience Camps are:

Sunday, June 9 to Thursday, June 13, 2024
Sunday, June 23 to Thursday, June 27, 2024
Sunday, July 14 to Thursday, July 18, 2024

The 2024 Junior STEAM Experience Camp for students entering grades 6 to 8 in fall 2024.

The dates for the Junior STEAM Experience Camps are:

Sunday, June 16 to Thursday, June 20, 2024
Sunday, July 7 to Thursday, July 11, 2024

 

What is the total cost of Summer and Junior STEAM Experience

The cost for one week of Summer or Junior STEAM Experience at UW-Stout is $495.00 for overnight campers. This includes four nights in the campus dorms and all meals from Sunday evening to Thursday afternoon. The fee includes all camp activities, supplies, and instructor time.

The cost for one week of Summer or Junior STEAM Experience day camp is $345.00 and this includes 24 or 16 hours of classroom instruction respectively, which includes supplies and instructor time. There will be extra activities and a lunch meal.

What if my child does not want to stay overnight?

The 2024 Summer STEAM Experience and Junior STEAM Experience camps are also day camps for those who do not want to stay overnight. The fee for a day camper is $345.00 and the fee for an overnight camper is $495.00.

How do I know if my child's school district is paying for th

Scholarships are available through the generosity of the following school districts:

Chippewa Falls Unified School District
There is a limited number of scholarships for campers who live in or attend school in the Chippewa Falls Unified School District.

School District of Menomonie Area
Campers can register as day campers at no cost. The overnight camper fee is $150.00 for the full camp experience. Students must live within or attend the School District of Menomonie Area to qualify.  

Can I pay for camp in installment payments?

Yes, when you register your child for camp through Camp.doc you can select a installment payment plan.

Refunds and Attendee Substitutions Policy

Refunds for the camps:

Summer STEAM Experience Week 1 June 9-13:
All cancellation notices must be received in writing (email is acceptable). A full refund will be granted through June 1, 2024. Cancellations on or after June 2 and through June 9, 2024, will be granted less a $30.00 processing fee. No refunds will be made on or after June 9. Substitutions may be made at any time before the start of the program.

Summer STEAM Experience Week 2 June 23-27:
All cancellation notices must be received in writing (email is acceptable). A full refund will be granted through June 15, 2024. Cancellations on or after June 15 and through June 23, 2024, will be granted less a $30.00 processing fee. No refunds will be made on or after June 23. Substitutions may be made at any time before the start of the program.

Junior STEAM Experience Week 1 June 16-20:
All cancellation notices must be received in writing (email is acceptable). A full refund will be granted through June 8, 2024. Cancellations on or after June 8 to June 16, 2024, will be granted less a $30.00 processing fee. No refunds will be made on or after June 16. Subscriptions may be made at any time before the start of the program.

Junior STEAM Experience Week 2 July 7-11:
All cancellation notices must be received in writing (email is acceptable). A full refund will be granted through June 29, 2024. Cancellations on or after June 29 to July 7, 2024, will be granted less a $30.00 processing fee. No refunds will be made on or after July 7. Subscriptions may be made at any time before the start of the program.

Game Development Week July 14-18:
All cancellation notices must be received in writing (email is acceptable). A full refund will be granted through July 6, 2024. Cancellations on or after July 6 and through July 14, 2024, will be granted less a $30.00 processing fee. No refunds will be made on or after June 14. Substitutions may be made at any time before the start of the program.

Program changes and cancellations:
The university reserves the right to make changes in programs and activities or to cancel programs if enrollment criteria are not met or when conditions beyond its control prevail. Every effort will be made to contact each attendee if a program is not held for any reason. The university's liability is limited to the refund of the program fee.

What forms does my child need to fill out to attend camp?

Please fill out the Challenge Course Waiver and email, mail, or bring to camp. Children's health information will be entered into CampDoc. Users will receive an invite to complete their information.

What kind of supervision will my child have?

Dedicated, enthusiastic, and experienced camp counselors will be assigned to teams of 10 campers. Counselors will be responsible for their team at all times.  UW-Stout faculty and teaching assistants will be on hand to assist Stout counselors with instruction during tracks.

What should my child expect & what will they walk away with?

Camp instructors and staff have designed specific tracks and activities for campers to focus on throughout their week:

Campers should expect an intense but fun week of programming, both in and out of the classroom.  Campers will feature their completed work at the Camper's Showcase on Thursday afternoon, June 13th and June 27th for Summer STEAM Experience and June 20 and July 11 for Junior STEAM Experience and take home their projects. 

Disciplinary Policies

The camp reserves the right, upon notification of parents/legal guardians, to dismiss any camper during any session for improper conduct, language, dress, or attitude which, in the judgment of the Summer STEAM Experience and Junior STEAM Experience administrative and counseling staff, is detrimental to the well-being of other campers or smooth operation of the camp.

What kind of activities will be outside of the classroom?

Camp activities will include but are not limited to the UW-Stout's Challenge Course, video and board games, capture the flag, sidewalk chalking, basketball and volleyball, crafts, free time for 11th and 12th graders, yoga, and more!

Are Bedding and Linens Provided?

Yes! Pillow, blanket, linens, and towels are provided but you are welcome to bring your own as well.

Housing Linen

What Should They Pack?

Overnight campers will need clothes for overnight and five days of classroom and outdoor activities. Athletic clothes are recommended but not required. Overnight campers will need close-toed shoes which are required for the Ropes Course. Campers are welcome to bring cell phones, devices, laptops, etc. However, classroom activities will utilize campus computers. Check the registration page for a full list.

Where will they stay and will they have roommates?

All overnight campers and camp counselors will stay in a residence hall on UW-Stout's main campus. Campers can have one roommate request or will be assigned a roommate of the same gender and age.

Will they be spending time off campus?

All activities and classroom instruction will be held on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Where do I get Up-to-date information on COVID-19 Requiremen

These camps will follow UW-Stout's COVID-19 guidelines, safety requirements, and meeting protocols. See latest updates.

Are there arrangements for my child's food allergy?

Yes, the UW-Stout Dining Center can accommodate most dietary restrictions and requests. Please note that during the registration process under "Dietary Restrictions and Preferences".

What if I need to reach my child?

Please call Denise at 715-232-5022 or the main office at 715-232-2793 during office hours 8-4 pm Monday through Thursday.  For other times please call Rebecca at 715-232-2861. This number will be provided to parents/legal guardians at camper check-in. Students are allowed to bring and use their personal cellphones during evening free time.

What is the protocol in case of emergency or injury?

Medical

Minor headaches, stomach pain, cramps, and cuts should be reported to the student’s counselor right away. First-aid kits will be available and will be administered by the staff. Camp staff is not allowed to give students any medication unless authorized by the student’s parent, guardian, or medical personnel. Over-the-counter medication can be provided by a nurse or a medical professional, if necessary.

If the health condition is severe enough to warrant immediate medical attention, the Head Counselor and/or the Outreach Program Manager should take the student to the nearest emergency hospital and notify the parent/guardians immediately. The Outreach Program Manager will hold all emergency medical forms and health insurance information on hand at all times, in case of such emergencies.

All accidents are to be reported to the Outreach Program Manager and/or Head Counselor. Parents/guardians will be notified of all accidents/incidences that require professional assistance.

Are E-cigs or vaping allowed?

E-Cigs or vaping is not allowed during STEAM Camp and is not allowed on campus.
