A Q&A with one of the 1,319 students who received a diploma May 4 at UW-Stout:
Name: Krystal Evans
Hometown: Oshkosh
Major: Computer networking and information technology, minor in information security management
Awards, honors: Chancellor’s Awards, Lawton Grant, Big Brothers and Big Sisters Scholarship
Why did you choose UW-Stout? I chose Stout because I felt like this school could help me become more independent. I wanted to live a life where I didn’t have to depend on my parents. Another reason why I chose Stout is because of the job placement rate. It’s very high, so I knew I wouldn’t have difficulty finding a job after college. I am fortunate enough to have a job before I graduate.
What are the biggest obstacles you faced in earning your degree? Learning how to be confident in a male-dominated major. Being confident is something I’ve always struggled with. But I overcame this with the support of my program director, the males in my major and my friends.
What stands out among your college experiences? Being a part of the Multicultural Student Services. They have provided so many opportunities for me that I’m so thankful for. Also, they helped me become more in touch with my culture and who I am. Lastly, the wonderful friendships and connections I have made at Stout.
What’s next? I accepted an IT security engineer position at Computer Integrations Technology in Woodbury, Minn. So, I’m very excited to start the next phase of my life.
