We're so excited to welcome you to the Stout community. Here, you're not only a student but also a member of our vibrant campus culture. If we haven't already, we can't wait to meet you in person!

Until then, there are a few things left for you to do.

New First-Year Students

For first-time incoming students coming to UW-Stout, read on:

Upon Admission
  • Celebrate!!! #FutureBlueDevil, #StoutProud, #CollegeBound
  • Activate Your UW-Stout Email Account 

    Activate your account as soon as you can and check it regularly. You will need your Campus ID for this, which can be found in the initial email sent to you after submitting your application.

  • Review & Complete Your Housing Reservation

    After activating your UW-Stout email, University Housing will send you an email and mail you a Life@Stout booklet. Follow the online process to sign your contract and pay your $125 housing prepayment to reserve your residence hall space. Room selection times are based on the date you sign your contract and pay your prepayment. The earlier you sign, the earlier your room selection time will be.

Mid-October

Apply for Stout University Foundation Scholarships

In addition to incoming students scholarships, you can apply for more than $1.2M scholarships awarded by the Stout University Foundation. After the University Foundation Scholarship Application opens, submit a single application to be considered for every scholarship the foundation offers.

October - November

Schedule a Visit to Stout

Visit us during daily Discover Stout Admissions Visits, Campus Preview Days or Stout Saturdays!

Mid-December

File Your FAFSA for Financial Support

After 2024-2025 FAFSA Opens, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using FAFSA School Code: 003915

First Monday in February

Stout University Foundation Scholarship Deadline: Don't miss out on applying for scholarships through the University Foundation. 

Priority Deadline for Blue Devil First-Year Student Scholarship: You must be admitted and have a FAFSA on file by this date. 

February 15Priority Deadline for FAFSA To be eligible for financial need-based scholarships through the Stout Foundation Scholarship Application, you must have a FAFSA on file by this date.
March

FYRO Invitations are sent: Check your UW-Stout email for Registration and Orientation information. Sign up for your date!

Complete Roommate Questionnaire: Check your UW-Stout email for your Housing roommate questionnaire and information to prepare you for room and dining selection in June. Please follow the directions sent from University Housing to complete this through the Housing Gateway.

Registration for online UW Placement Testing opens: Complete testing at least one week prior to your First-Year Registration & Orientation date.

Minnesota Reciprocity Application Opens: Minnesota residents must register for reciprocity

First-Year Registration & Orientation: Attend your First-Year Registration and Orientation date that you registered for!

Housing Information Sent: Check your UW-Stout email for room selection directions, and how to review your roommate information and residence hall assignment. Please follow directions sent by University Housing to know your room selection date/time and steps to choose and review your room selection.

Sign the Student Account ContractYou must complete this step prior to registering for classes.

Request Final Official Transcripts: Be sure to request final high school transcripts showing your graduation date, and have college/university transcripts sent to the UW-Stout Admissions Office.

Late JulyHousing Information Sent: Check your UW-Stout email for directions from University Housing on how to set-up your move-in process.
August

Set up your move-in process. You'll select a date and time during move-in week to move into your residence hall and set-up your room.

Sign Master Promissory Notes: If taking out student loan(s), sign Master Promissory Notes (MPN) online prior to beginning classes (Access Stout).

Mid-AugustView your tuition bill in Access Stout: You will receive email notification to your UW-Stout email when your tuition bill is ready to view. View tuition due dates and authorize a parent or guest user on your account.
Late August

Move-in Week: Move into your residence hall on the day and time you signed up for. You can stay on-campus after your move-in time but most students leave and return for orientation.

  • Fall 2023: August 26 - September 3
  • Fall 2024: August 24 - September 1
First week of September

Week One Orientation: Make friends and have a blast during Week One Orientation!

  • Fall 2023: Sunday, September 3 - Tuesday, September 5
  • Fall 2024: Sunday, September 1 - Tuesday, September 3
Wednesday after Labor Day

First Day of Classes: Fall semester classes officially begin!
